AMD chipset; Failed installation

I recently asked the following question: Can't install on AMD systems.
Since then, I have attempted multiple different forms of installtion.
I have tried 2 different ISO-to-USB programs, one of them suggested by
Ubuntu's "how to install page"
I have tried the Wubi Installation, where I simply receive a Grub failure
I attempted installation onto the same HDD on a different PC, an old Intel
based laptop, which has had successful USB installations in the past,
however, the motherboard on that laptop is near to dying, so it was unable
to boot the Live CD. (It can only handle lightweight distros such as lucid
puppy, although, I've had success in booting from the HDD (with Ubuntu) in
the past.
I even formatted the HDD with the old Ubuntu installation, using Gparted
OS (booted off an old 256MB USB drive.
